The Addax and Oryx Foundation granted funding to three new projects at its September Board meeting.
Aspire Rwanda, a registered NGO in Rwanda, will receive funding for a three-year community-based project beginning in January 2015. The holistic project aims to provide 70 women with income-generating activities, giving them the tools and knowledge to improve their health and the health of their families (husbands and/or partners and 280 children).
The Foundation also approved funding for an 18-month project in Ghana led by Pure Earth, an international non-profit organisation. The project aims to promote the Agbogbloshie scrap metal site in the capital Accra, as a recycling knowledge centre by setting up a model electronic scrap facility that will protect livelihoods while minimising the adverse health, safety and environmental effects of the informal electronic waste recycling sector.
Finally, a grant was awarded to the Swiss association Ingénieurs et Architectes Solidaires (IAS), for a 9-month project in Togo that will provide drinking water to a vocational training centre and its neighbourhood. Project activities include drilling a new well and installing an electro-solar supply system.
These projects bring to 35 the total number of projects funded by the Addax and Oryx Foundation in 2014.
