Objectives:
The two-year project aims to contribute to the food and income security of 500 farmers. The farmers will be organised into ten legally registered farmers’ associations and trained in sustainable agricultural practices, such as organic vegetable production and modern beekeeping. Food processing equipment will also be provided to enable the sale of processed foods. Farmers will be trained in group governance and leadership, financial management and record keeping to improve their institutional capacity. Together, these actions should improve the nutrition and incomes of the farmers and their families. CAD and the communities will also plant trees to restore three degraded land areas in the project zone, where poor agricultural practices around water catchment areas have degraded the soil.
